Visit to Heligoland
(From Norma Cameron - now Lamplough)

I remember during the first German tour, Elsie Rodgers's (trombonist) hair needing attention, as the roots were beginning to show, and she went to a German hairdresser. Whatever they used turned her hair a greenish color and it began to break off very rapidly. Fortunately, Elsie had a great sense of humour!

We also had the opportunity to visit Heligoland, a U-boat base, leaving from Cuxhaven by E-boat, a very bumpy ride! The island had been completely evacuated because of the bombing, and there was still food left on the tables of the houses which we were given the opportunity to enter and to collect souvenirs. I remember Toni Beale (trumpet) acquired a small refrigerator!
